OLD BODRUM I heard of old Bodrum from the 1950’s , from my grandfather ‘Ibrahim Şençiçek’ who and his father was also a sailor, and from my uncle ‘Günay Şençiçek’ and my father and our master ‘Ünal Şençiçek’ who both are sailors too. Bodrum was a small town. People did fishing and sponge-diving on sea, or growing olives and citrus fruits on land. On the 1970’s and 80’s the tourism endustry and the big change started in Bodrum. |

The 1970’s and 1980’s As you can see on the pictures, there was less people and much less cars in the town. Everybody know and respect each other. It was peacefull and never anything disturbing happened here. I was young and do remember these days. My grandfather ‘Ibrahim Şençiçek was alive and making boat trips to Bardakçi and Karaada with his boat sençiçek. My father Ünal Şençiçek was doing popular and amusing daily trips with his legendary boat Yasemin. I had my first working experience on the Yasemin boat in these years.. And my father Ünal sençiçek was singing and entertaining the guests all day long on the boat. As you see on the two pictures, the famous Turkish singer ‘Zeki Müren’ did sometimes come on our boat. . |

The 1990’s After I worked on my fathers boat for many years as a cook, cabin-boy, sailor and able-seamen. On 1991, when I was only 17 years old, I bought my first boat, the Xanthos-1. Thanks to the energy of being a youth and the discipline I learned from my family, I succeeded and Xanthos Yachting was born. The following years, I became a captain myself and my responsibility increased. In 1995 the business went good, and I decided to buy the Xanthos-2. My father Ünal Şençiçek has sold his boat Yasemin and build his new boat The Yasemin-2. |

The 2000’s In 2001 we decided to extend our business again. I sold the Xanthos-1 and Xanthos-2. Instead I bought 2 bigger boats. The Xanthos-3 for charters, and the Xanthos-4 for daily trips. After a few years, I sold the Xanthos-4. At 2008 we bought the Xanthos-5 and sold it on 2009. After the Xanthos-3 and Yasemin-2 was sold in 2010, we have bought the ‘Xanthos Duru Kuzey’ which is named after my twin children. My father Ünal Şençiçek is stil doing boat trips with the Xanthos Duru Kuzey. |
